Calamities in New Zealand and Japan

E-mail Print PDF

A 9.0 Richter scale earthquake hit northern Japan on March 11 this year.  Coordinated through Tzu Chi’s headquarter in Taiwan, our volunteers in Japan commenced their hot food deliveries to affected areas in spite of the snowy weather.  Our volunteers worldwide also respond with local fundraising appeals.

The Christchurch 6.3 scale quake on 22nd February 2011 was New Zealand’s most severe in 80 years.  Tzu Chi NZ joined force with the Salvation Army and conducted a distribution of aid materials on March 12 to 132 families of 475 residents.  This was followed by giving out of cash cards, blankets, medical kits, and daily essentials packs to 435 families on March 26 and 27.
