晉朝時，有一位名叫毛寶的小男孩，家境十分貧困。有一年冬天，他到溪邊玩耍時，看到一名漁夫抓起一隻小白龜說：「這隻珍貴、少見的小白龜，一定很值錢！」小男孩看到小白龜，起了一分憐憫心，便請求漁夫把牠放了；但漁夫認為難得抓到這麼珍貴的小白龜，無論如何都不願將牠放生。
During the Jin dynasty, a boy, called Mao Bao, was born into an impoverished family. One winter day, Mao Bao was playing near a river bank. when a fisherman saw a small white turtle being caught in his net and said: “This small white turtle is very scarce, it must be very precious!”. Seeing the small white turtle being caught, compassion arose in the boy’s mind. He begged the fisherman to release the turtle but as it was rare to catch a white turtle, the fisherman refused his request.

貧苦夫妻中秋賞月 Indigent couple enjoys moon-watching during Mid-autumn Festival
有一對貧苦夫妻，每天做苦工勉強維持生活，住的房子屋頂破洞，也無力修補。某年中秋月圓，家家戶戶在屋外團圓賞月、吃月餅；他們一貧如洗無餅可食，決定早早上床安寢。進到房內，看到地上有兩個圓圓亮亮的影子，妻子驚喜地說：「老伴，我們有兩個銅錢呢！」
There once was an indigent couple who did heavy physical work everyday. They lived in a house with a leaking roof which they couldn't afford to repair. When the moon is full during mid-autumn, most families would go out and have reunions, enjoying the festivities as in eating mooncakes. The couple was so poor that couldn't even afford mooncakes, so they decided to go to bed early. In their bedroom, the wife noticed a couple of round objects on the ground and exclaimed: "Old mate, we have got two copper coins!"

佛陀在世時，有一位比丘修養很好，人人都很敬重他，有一天，佛陀座下的弟子即請問道：「佛陀！這位年輕的比丘到底有何德行？為何有這麼多人對他如此禮敬、讚歎呢？」佛陀說：「這是來自於他的發心發願！」
When the Buddha was in this world, there was a Buddhist monk with tremendous discipline who was respected by everyone. One day, the Buddha was asked by his disciple, "Buddha! What virtues does this young monk really possess? Why is he so respected and commended by people?" The Buddha said, "This is because of the goodness he aspires to and the vows he has made!"

人生，行善不能等，因為要完成一件好事，需要許多因緣會聚，最重要的是能否把握時間、機會，及時去做。常說：施比受更快樂，所以，有機會能及時助人，就是很有福的人。
In our lifetime, we must not wait to do good, for the completion of a good deed requires many karmic conditions to be met and, most important of all, whether or not we can make good use of each moment and opportunity to perform the deed. There is a saying that goes “it makes one happier to give than to receive”, therefore any individual who has the opportunity to help somebody in time is a blessed individual.

Although the five roots (eyes, ears, nose, tongue and the body) can easily combine with everyday emotions to create bad karma, they can also enhance power, and if used wisely, they can create value in ones life.
